PERSONAL INFORMATION PRIVACY PROTECTION USING OWNERSHIP INVOLVEMENT TECHNIQUE IN HIPPOCRATIC DATABASES

Organizations rely much on database systems to store corporate information particularly the personal information (PI) of individuals.  It is of utmost important to secure and safeguard these PI from unauthorized accessed and misuse.  On the other hand, authorized accessed are only allowed as per their intended purposes and for a limited retention period.  From the individual point of view, he will have neither minimum authority nor control over his PI released to organizations, i.e., loose ownership to their PI.  The main issue then is having less control over their PI and face the risk of information misuse over that have been collected, stored, used, and disclosed by the private and government agencies.  How are we able to protect such information and enforce certain level of privacy policies to safeguard our PI.

This project is designed to answer the above important question. The project objective is to develop a technique that will give individuals some level of control over their stored information based on purpose and retention period.  In addition, the development and use of Hippocratic Databases (HDB) will allow us to implement some personal privacy policies against information disclosure.  In short, this research aims to solve the confidentiality issue of data security.
