Faculty of computing in Rabigh held an Open Day for the students

of the Dean of Faculty of Computing and Information Technology in Rabigh
Dr. Sami Mohammed Halawani, the Open Day of FCITR was held on Monday,
28/11/2011, where FCITR students and faculty members participated in the
activities.
The activities began at 9:30 AM by reading verses from the Holy Quran by
student Abdullah Al-Qarny, then FCITR Dean welcomed on the beginning of
his speech the students and faculty members, he outlined what has been
achieved since the establishment of the FCITR and especially the new
curricula, that have been approved by the KAU deans council and applied
on the beginning of the academic year 1432 -1433 AH. The Dean Confirmed
that one of the main goals of the Open Day is to introduce the new
changes on the curricula to the students in details, and its positive
impacts on the student education. The dean explained that these updates
on the curricula adopted of the latest global curricula standards and
required for the academic accreditation, which will be helping the
students on their post-graduate studies and get the best opportunities
for competition in the labor market. The Dean explained that the
students' questions and queries about everything related to educational
affairs will be taken on consideration, and the departments' chairmen
will answer these questions.
Dr. Samir Boucetta introduces in brief the new changes of Information
Technology Department curriculum and mentioned the new updates related
to each department, and discussed some of the 2009 student's
difficulties related to the transition from the old curricula to the new
one. Then Computer Science Department chairman, Dr. Daut Daman, and
information systems department chairman, Dr. Ab Rahman Ahmad introduced
the new curriculum and the tracks on their departments. During these
discussions, queries from students have been asked about the
difficulties they faced during the applying of the new curricula and, in
particular, the equivalences between the old and new curricula.
Three laptops awarded to the students excelling academically and they
are: Ahmad Al-Bishry (IT), Abdullah Syam (CS) and Fahd Al-Gamdy(IS). In
addition, the outstanding students who have received the second place on
Al-Fursan Contest organized by KAU University are awarded prizes and
they are: Ahmad Al-Bishry, Osama Hakim and AbdAlmajeed Al-Qarny. Then
prized are given to the students who participated in the activities of
the programming competition that have been organized by FCITR. After
that, an interactive competition held for FCITR students, and the
winners have been given prizes.
Finally, the participants went for lunch which was prepared for this occasion.
